SLEC Meeting Regarding National Delegation

SLEC has announced the below meeting. Anyone interested in being a delegate to the National Convention should attend this meeting, if possible, as well as fill out the National Delegate interest form.

By LNC rule, The Libertarian Party of Texas is required to select at least one delegate at least 30 days prior to our national nominating convention, which is scheduled for May 22nd. Due to the Coronavirus outbreak and current social distancing measures, LPTexas was forced to postpone our state convention which was previously scheduled for April 18.

However, because our national convention is still scheduled for May 22nd, we must submit at least one delegate by April 22nd. Our LPTexas rules state that SLEC (State Libertarian Executive Committee) can select our delegates to our national convention, but that such a vote must be held at an open meeting. SLEC will choose the remainder of our delegates at a later time, which may be at an in person event or online.

Please join us on WebEx on Thursday Night, April 16th at 8:00pm Central to view the meeting.

State Convention To Be Rescheduled

We can move our convention dates! After repeated requests to the Office of the Texas Secretary of State and the Office of the Governor, the Governor has suspended Texas election code 181.061 which required our LPTexas convention to be held on April 18th of this year.

The Convention Committee and SLEC are already working on setting new dates. More details to come soon!

District Conventions and COVID-19

Please note that, due to the concerns and closures caused by COVID-19, all San Antonio libraries are closed for the time being. We will still open the conventions at Brookhollow Library. We are legally required to hold conventions at the location we originally posted.

If the weather cooperates we can complete the conventions outside of the library, however we are planning for a second location which we can reconvene to if necessary. We will update information here as soon as there is any news.

San Antonio Area Libertarians

The Libertarian Party is the only political party dedicated to smaller government, and a more voluntary world. We believe in maximizing individual choices in everyone’s lives and freeing economic choices by reducing government influences and controls.

It is not the business of government to make men virtuous or religious, or to preserve the fool from the consequences of his own folly. Government should be repressive no further than is necessary to secure liberty by protecting the equal rights of each from aggression on the part of others, and the moment governmental prohibitions extend beyond this line they are in danger of defeating the very ends they are intended to serve.
